This our third trip back to Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point, Iowa.  The second time we camped in this area, we stayed at the more primitive campground, Six Pines Campground, located just inside the west entrance to the park.  This campground does not have any electrical sites and has only primitive restroom facilities.  It is a bit more open, but you do have a little more room between campsites.  Also, there are a few sites, along the parameter of the campground, that are a bit more private if you are looking for such a site.

Located just south of the east entrance, is the main portion of the park.  There are cabins located near the east side of the lake, and around the south side is the more modern South Lake Campground.  Here you will find a variety of electric and non-electric sites.  There are also two modern restroom facilities, and there a wide variety of campsites to choose from.  While some are fairly open to the sun, others have good shade trees to set up under, or there are a number of campsites nestled in the more wooded portions of the campground.  There are also a number of hiking trails leading out of the campground to various parts of the park.
