Over the 4th of July weekend, we when camping at Dolliver State Park just a little south and west of Webster City, Iowa.  Its a nice campground along the banks of the Des Moines River.  It seems to be a very popular place to go fishing, wading, and hiking.  This was the second time that Lisa and I had visited the campground.

There are a couple nice trails to explore in the park.  One goes to a local site where Native Americans used to hunt the buffalo.  Another one goes across a small stream, then up the side of a bluff.  A the top there are a couple of ancient burial mounts.  In the pictures above you can see two of them.  In the left, it is in the left side of the picture and in the one on the right, it is in the center of the picture.  The last time we were here, we followed the trail, shown in the picture on the left, that winds quite a distance beyond the mount.   If you like to do a little hiking, this is a pretty nice place to explore.

A popular spot in the park is a wading area near the south entrance.  As you drive by you have a choice of crossing the bridge, or driving over a small spillway.  There is also a natural spring empting into the wading pool.

The following weekend, Lisa and I were back in Dolliver.  There was an SCA re-enacting event nearby and we had decided to stay in the park again.
