Gettysburg 2003

This was our first trip together to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Ironically enough, the year prior to this, we both had visited Gettysburg within a month of one another.

This is a spot that I have always liked to stop when visiting the park.  Usually, I have hiked down from the hotel to this point on Little Roundtop, but this day we had decided to take a driving tour before we started our hiking.

This is one of my favorite houses to stop by and look at when visiting the battlefield.  This is the Weikert House and it is nearly at the center of the Union activity on the second and third day of Gettysburg.

This is General Meade's Headquarters.  The house and surrounding farm are relatively in the same condition as they were during the course of the battle.

Another series of some of my favorite spots on the battlefield.  The first two in the series are of some houses that would have been only a few blocks from the south edge of town during the battle.  Of course the fourth picture is of the "sniper's" nest in the Devil's Den looking toward the top of Little Round Top.  The first and second picture in the last row are roughly behind the sniper's nest.  The third is of Cemetery Ridge from the Emmetsburg Road, and the last is of some re-enactors that were preparing for the weekend.

The photo above is not as clear as I would have like it, but it was taken to show our "enthusiasm" to explore, despite the weather conditions.  That day it was overcast, misting, a bit cold, and a little windy, but that didn't stop us from hiking and enjoying ice cream from the local shops.
