Lake MacBride State Park 2013

This was our first trip to Lake MacBride State Park down by Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  We had been planning on visiting the park earlier this year, but those plans fell through.  However, on this weekend, we knew we were going to be in the area, so we thought we would try out camping in the park.  The photos above are from various spots around the lake, and were taken during one of our driving tours.  There are really two different bodies of water separated by a dam and spillway.  The photos above are of Lake MacBride itself, but the other lake, on the down river side of the dam is Coralville Lake.

Saturday afternoon, I decided to take a hike along the shore of Lake MacBride.  I started at the campground and worked my way east to the first boat landing.  It was actually a bit farther than I thought, but it was a nice trail to take.  I turned around at this point, walked back past camp, and down to the dam.

As I mentioned before, there are really two bodies of water separated by a dam.  The photos above are of the dam and spillway.  I was really impressed with how high Lake McBride is compared to Coralville Lake.

With Coralville Lake being the bigger, and deeper of the two, you tend to see larger boats and a variety of water craft skimming across the lake.
