North Shore Scenic Railroad 2008

This year we decided to see what types of railroad trips were offered in the area and we found the North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth, Minnesota.  They have museum, gift shop, and, of course, various railroad trips to choose from.  We thought it would be interesting to take the ride from Duluth to Two Harbors and back.  For this ride, they use a restored steam locomotive with two different types of passenger cars.  The only offer the steam locomotive a few times a year, and we were fortunate to be in the area when they offered this option.  We also decided to ride in the older passenger car, which was a real treat.

The images above are of the train when we stopped in Two Harbors.  The last image is of a steam engine that they have on display and is not a working engine.

As I mentioned, the car we traveled in was an older car, I believe from the 40s or 50s.  The interior had been restored nicely, and I really liked the seats that were reversible.

Here are some miscellaneous photos from the rest of the trip.  It was interesting watching the steam, from the engine, hang on in the foliage as we passed by.  Also, did you ever wonder what we look like while we are sitting in our cars waiting for the train to pass?  Take a look at the last two photos.
