Pilot Knob 2011

Our first camping trip of 2011, the weekend of April 1st.  This was the earliest we've been camping yet.  The weather was surprisingly warm.  We were able to open the trailer to air it out and sit outside and enjoy the warm sun.   As usual the weather on Saturday was nice, but Sunday, the day we left for home, was even nicer.  The temperature got up to around seventy degrees that day.

At first, when we would go camping and there was no one else around, it felt really strange.  Now, I kind of like it.  It is also really interesting to camp when the grass has not greened up and the trees haven't even started to bud out.

We took a hike up to the tower in Pilot Knob on Saturday.  Last year they had it closed off due to park maintenance and tree clearing.  It was definitely strange to see it without the trees that used to surround it.  Also, in the first pictures, you will see a bit of snow and ice left over from the winter.   There was still a fair amount of ice on one of the ponds near the campground.  That took me a bit by surprise considering the warm weather we had been experiencing.   In the last too pictures, you will see the pond to which I am referring.  Also, to the extreme right of the pond is where the campground is.  It will always amaze me at how easy it is to get turned around when hiking.  Even if you know the territory really well.
