St. Croix State Park 2003

Our first camping trip together started at St. Croix State Park in Minnesota.  Lisa had just returned form Iraq and wanted to go camping where there was lots of green.  St. Croix seemed to fit that bill.

The series of photos above is from a fire tower that is open to the public.  Usually it is quite a climb to get to the top, but we just rode our bikes from camp to the tower, and it only added to the difficultly.  The road only only looked like a couple of miles on the map, but we were wrong.  It was still a fun bike ride.

The photos above are from a nice overlook of the St. Croix river in the park.

This was a few years prior to us purchasing the Scamp, and we did not have much in the way of a camp kit built yet.  The tent in the picture had only been out  a couple times since I purchased it a few years earlier.

Traditions when camping are a great thing, I and encourage everyone to find something to make into tradition for each trip, if you haven't already.  The photo with me holding the camp card started out good, but fizzled a few trips later.  We had this idea of take a picture of one of us when we were turning the cards in.  I don't believe they collect the cards anymore.
